This small back garden in East Dulwich is for a busy family with two young children. Once a wilderness, this garden now provides for everyone.

Directly from the rear of the house there is a decked side-return with a small deck at the front of the garden.

 

Sandstone stepping stones float in the lawn and lead you to the bottom of the garden.

To maintain the illusion of space the garden is framed on three-sides by a single pergola with diamond trellis panels. The pergola give the garden height and provides a structure for the many climbing plants.

The planting is simple but effective and will provide an oasis of fragrance and interest throughout the year as it matures.

Square clipped yew hedging acts as a natural boundary at the front and rear of the garden.

Extra interest has been added to this design by using reflective mirror on the trellis panels, giving the illusion of hidden dimensions.
