Roles of the Designer:
- Initial liaising with the client.
- Establish and agree overall budget with client.
- Agree overall approach to design with client.
- Full site survey.
- Overall design of garden.
- Sourcing appropriate contractors and skilled tradesmen as required.
- Meeting contractor to agree terms and conditions, choice and quality of methods of workmanship, materials and programme of work.
- Advising contractor on matters of design detailing through construction drawings and visuals.
- Advising client of contractor’s final quotation ensuring job comes in within budget.
- Advising client of contractual obligation where appropriate.
- Agree setting out
- Advising client on progress of works.
- Advising client on quality of work.
- Overseeing the project.
- Receiving and checking invoices from contractor.
- Ensure current Public Liability Insurance.
Role of the Client:
- To enter into a contract to pay for the design fees, building works and the contingency fee (if applicable) on completion of each phase or at agreed intervals.
- For projects up to £7,000 - 50% deposit to clear 1 week before build work starts and 50% on completion of project. Contingency fee (if applicable) payable on completion.
- For projects in excess of £7,000 - 50% deposit to clear 1 week before build work starts, a further 25% at a pre-determined mid-point, the date of which will be agreed in advance and will be set out on the contract and a final payment of 25% on completion of project.
- 10% Contingency fee (if applicable) payable on completion.
- All additional fees to be paid within 7 working days. Unpaid invoices will be passed to debit collection agency if not resolved.
- VAT will be charged at the standard rate
- Fees should be paid by cheque, made out to David Cheetham Gardens or by bank transfer.
- To make any decisions on design development matters and materials speedily so as not to prolong or delay the works.
- To allow the contractor to go about their daily business without frustration or interference.
- To provide reasonable facilities for the contractor.
- To make available electricity and mains water supply.
- To ensure access is granted as required and at agreed times.
- Design Fees and any costs incurred for additional drawings to be paid in full on submission of final plans
- All work will be signed off at regular intervals and costings submitted are relevant for the work that has been signed off. Any changes to agreed plans will be charged at a separate rate in writing and costs incurred by the client.
Role of Contractor:
- Commence and completing work on time and within budget.
- Initiating and attending site meetings when required.
- Providing regular feedback on progress.
- Co-ordination from designer with the programme of works, sourcing and ordering materials for timely delivery.
- Producing costings and estimates for all work to be carried out.
- Advising designer of any implications that may affect overall design and advise prior to any changes being made during the construction process.
- Interpreting the design on the ground accurately.
- Providing samples where necessary and as required.
- Checking delivery of materials are to required standard and quality
- Ensure the site complies with current H&S procedures.
- Ensuring all sub-contractors have the relevant qualifications and experience to complete work and tasks.
