The Society of Garden Designers (SGD) is the only professional association for garden designers in the UK and is dedicated to supporting, promoting and maintaining the highest quality of standards within the membership.
Through accreditation procedures, conferences, journals, regionally based training events and local networking groups, the Society addresses current issues, engages with the wider industry and broadens the understanding and knowledge of all aspects of garden design.
The Society is committed to high standards of professional practice. It actively encourages its members in their efforts to raise and maintain these standards in garden design.
The SGD believes it is crucial to uphold and preserve high standards of assessment if the Society is to maintain its professional integrity in the eyes of the public and peers in related disciplines. The SGD operates a three stage process leading to Registered Membership.
Code of Professional Conduct and Good Practice
The purpose and scope of the Code of Professional Conduct and Good Practice is to:
a. inform members who are providing design services of the standard of professional conduct required of them in the exercise of their professional accountability and practice.
b. inform the public, other professions and employers of the standard of professional conduct that they can expect of a member of the Society.
As a member of the Society, members must:
a. act in such a way that justifies the trust and confidence the public have in you.
b. uphold and enhance the good reputation of the profession and the Society.
Complaints Handling Procedure
Members of the Society of Garden Designers are obliged to comply with the Society’s Code of Professional Conduct. In the event that the Society receives a complaint from a member of the public alleging that a member has breached the Code in their professional relationship with that member of the public, the complaints handling procedure will be followed.
